Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC came into effect in December 2009 and contains the essential health and safety requirements for machinery and partly completed machines on the EU market.
It ensures an adequate level of protection for machinery users and other exposed persons. However, it applies only to products to be placed on the single market for the first time.
The proposed revision:
- aligns the Directive with EU legislation on product health and safety, and
- addresses the challenges that can arise from technical progress in digitisation.
The next legislative act will be a regulation.
